Are Tardigrades Really Immortal ?

Tardigrades with other names water bear one of the smallest creatures on the planet. Maybe you heard, these very small creatures can live in every condition.
Approximately 1 millimeter long, this creature really has some special abilities. Conditions that can become extinct for another creature but tardigrades don't give up easily. For example, they can live in space and very hard conditions. Are they have a certain lifetime?

Actually, it's related to their living area. Even they had separated every part of the world, they like moist areas more. They prefer to be near the rivers. Because if they obtain enough food and water they can increase their lifetime. Although they can withstand very difficult conditions, the lifespan of these animals is between 1-2 years. So they can only 2-year live where the conditions are very good. But if they enter the stage called cryptobiosis, they have much more chances to live. That situation is living because of the environment conditions get harder. They almost shut down their metabolism, thereby avoiding freezing, drying out of thirst and starvation.
At this stage that slowed down their metabolism, their oxygen and water needs are decreasing, they are freezing like a dead. But of course, their life still continues. In a study, it was observed that the tardigrades, which seemed to be frozen at -200 degrees, were revived in a short time when they were taken back to the appropriate conditional environment
